Proposed Comet Astrophysics

We have shown the nature, presence and characteristics of the ejecta emplacements, and have offered a solution to their existence. Using the correlations provided by the hypothesis, we have demonstrated the nature, existence and characteristics of cometary craters on the earth’s surface. The hypothesis suggests an astrophysical mechanism that may yield the proposed craters. Please reference the discussion on the relevance of the timing of this sequence of events in the section

The Taurid Complex is a cometary debris stream revolving around the Sun in an earth-crossing orbit.
( Analysis suggests that during the recent past, a significant mass has been removed from the Taurid progenitor.

There is only one large comet in the taurid stream today, 2p/Encke. A good overview of the comet is available at Gary Kronk's

Steel, Asher, and Clube have derived a cometary model for the distribution of dust in the zodiac cloud, which is presented in their paper,
The structure and evolution of the Taurid complex (Royal Astronomical Society, Monthly Notices (ISSN 0035-8711), vol. 251, Aug. 15, 1991, p. 632-648.). Their numerical analysis yields a theorized single large cometary body entering the inner solar system 20,000 years ago. Further, they propose that it came to the end of its principal activity 10,000 years ago. We note that the timing of this activity correlates with the stabilization of the earth’s temperature. Steel, Asher, and Clube were unable to adequately explain the final distribution of the parent comet’s mass, although various possible explanations were presented. [1, 2, 3, 4]

We propose the earth captured this missing mass into earth orbit as large (~100+ km diameter.) cometary fragments, during several close Earth-Taurid orbit intersections over the past 20,000 years. The resulting earth satellite orbits would be highly elliptical, eventually decaying such that the captured comet bodies would make contact with the earth’s surface during a grazing interface at perigee. We propose that after one or more grazing events the cometary body, reduced in size, fragmented into a steam of elements and having lost momentum, would dissipate in a terminal impact. The final angle of incidence would remain quite low, perhaps below 5º, which yields a fan type structure as the comet spreads out.

The goal of the treatise is to correlate historical cultural evidence with the geological evidence. Given the proposed cometary capture sequence, it would be expected that humans would have noted the "train" of comets which the earth was approaching, and passing through.

How would this look to humans?

The Egyptians have been well recognized for their astronomical observations skills. The graphic we present here is interpreted by us as a definitive map of the Taurid train in early 2nd millennia.

Our current interpretation is that the lead comet body is credited with the white comma, and represented by the gods at the left, just behind the dragon. The dragon, or a snake is a common anthropomorphism of the danger. This graphic is viewed by us as a prized piece of evidence, providing relative sizing information and counts of the Taurid bodies. We hope that experts in hieroglyphics will re-intrepret this graphic using this explanation. The current solar plants have been given names from Greek mythology. While it is commonly assumed that these objects have always carried the names, the PZ conjecture holds that the names were originally bestowed upon celestial objects that were far closer and more intimidating - PZ cometary bodies. It was only after their demise that the planets took the names. Quite obviously, Neptune and Pluto were gods, but those current planetary bodies were not visible to our forefathers. This extends to other astronomical entities such as the Pleiades.

Drawings and stories of the Pleiades go back for over a thousand years. It seems every culture throughout history has seen this group of stars as significant. They are not a constellation by themselves, but are part of the constellation, Taurus the bull.There is a mystery to this group of stars, however. If you look at them and count them, you will count only six stars. Binoculars or a telescope will show you many more, but there are only six stars easily visible. Why, then, do we hear them called the seven sisters? It seems that ancient cultures either saw seven stars or were convinced there ought to be seven and so invented stories to explain it. One Greek myth said that the group of stars were seven sisters, however, one got struck by lightning and was no longer visible. Other Greeks said there were originally seven sisters, but one married a mortal and was then so ashamed, she hid her face. The Roman poet Hyginus said that the seventh sister was changed into a comet. The North American Indians also seemed to wish for seven stars. The Iroquois of New York say that the stars are seven brothers, but that one fell back to Earth.

Extending the conjecture, the Pleiades were originally a set of seven PZ cometary objects menacing the earth. After their demise, a convenient celestial structure was bestowed the name as a memorial. It should be noted that current Taurid Complex meteoric debris showers have the Pleiades as a major radiant.

We find the repeated references throughout history to the "Genealogy" of gods. Creation myths often contain references to a primary god, who gives "birth" to a number of lesser gods. After a time, the children are reported to have killed their parent. In the case of the Mayan myths, the mother god is killed by her first born for having another set of children. The repetitive sequence of primary body capture from the Taurid complex and subsequent disruption into smaller bodies could be a viable explanation for the folklore.

We offer one additional graphic to describe the "walk" expected in the elliptical orbit after each interfacing event, be it atmospheric or terrestrial. Immediately after each interface, the comet body is at a new, lower, velocity. This will define the next orbit's Perigee, expected to be incrementally earlier along the ground track, and offset to the west because of the Earth's rotation at one degree of longitude for each four minutes of orbital time. Being quite close to the Earth's surface, we expect these orbital times to be in the range of 92 to 108 minutes, with a resulting offset of 23º to 27º of longitude westwardly. Please note that this composite does not represent any specific identified Perigee: Zero de-orbit sequence.
